Online Backup

Features

APIs

Application programming interfaces are sets of programming instructions designed for accessing web tools. For example, Twitter's "Ads API" allows businesses to run ads through specific API partners instead of having businesses buy ads directly through Twitter.

CLOUD BACKUP

Synonymous with online backup, “cloud” is a popular buzzword in the technology press.

DATA ARCHIVING

Approximately 60% of a company's unstructured data files have not been accessed in over 90 days. Moving this data out of primary storage to an online backup solution like Zetta, enables businesses to lower their storage costs while keeping the data easily accessible.

DISASTER RECOVERY

Often abbreviated "DR," disaster recovery is the planning and action of recovering business functions during and after disruptions.

OFFSITE BACKUP

Sending and storing data in a separate location from where the data is mainly stored.

REMOTE OFFICE BACKUP

This refers to backup specifically for employees who work from home or remotely (outside the office). To learn more about remote office backup approaches, check out this blog post.

SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE

This refers to the stoppage of an entire system if just one part of that system fails. Unlike online backup with Zetta, removable hard drives and tape backup do have a single point of failure.

Terms

BANDWIDTH

Essentially, bandwidth refers to data transfer rate, or how fast data can be transferred from on point to another.

TRAFFIC THROTTLING

Most commonly this refers to Internet service providers slowing speeds of their service. In terms of Zetta backup, data transfer speeds will never be throttled at our data centers.

WAN TRAFFIC DEDUPLICATION & ADVANCED DATA COMPRESSION

Both of these help to reduce the amount of data that is communicated in a backup, which means backups can be completed quicker.
